Active Flag Questionnaires

Thank you to all parents who filled in our active flag questionnaire. Our Active flag committee under the guidance of Mrs Keane are working hard towards achieving our next Active Flag. Meetings are held at lunch time and they are always coming up with new ideas on how to keep active during the school day and at break times. Thank you to our active flag committee and Mrs Keane for all the work they do.

The curriculum recommends 1 hour a week for PE for children from 1st to 6th and half an hour for children in infant classes. In Scoil Mhuire we are doing above and beyond this. All teachers recognise the important role exercise plays in our learning and general well being. For the last number of weeks all classes have been taking part in the daily mile, it has been great fun, even on wet days we watched for breaks in the weather and got our mile in, sometimes it was even done in the hall!
.
Miss Beecher's class enjoyed swimming and yoga this term and 3rd and 4th class will be swimming after Christmas

It is fantastic to see every class from 1st to 6th playing hurling and camogie this term, this will continue after Christmas, we are grateful for the input from the hurling and camogie club for this, Thanks to Frank Ganon, Sean McGann, Paul Flaherty and Brian Hanley.

Rugby training with Peter O Hara was enjoyed by children in 3rd and 4th and will continue next term for children in 2nd and 3rd, 5th and 6th also took part in two rugby blitzes which they really enjoyed.

Mr Faherty's 5th and 6th class have been extremely active since September, They have been  playing football (thank you to Paul Walsh and Seamus Cooke), hurling/camogie, rugby, leading the way with the daily mile as well as using the hall and astroturf for other PE activities. They represented their school in several blitzes (hurling, camogie, boys football, girls football, tag rugby) and made us proud on each occasion.  They took part in the cycle right programme over four days and were even spotted 'running' the daily mile several times!
